Inspecting Property's in Palm Beach County & Surrounding Glades Areas
It's important to know what this inspection is and isn't. A wind mitigation inspection is not a full home inspection, nor is it a roof certification. It is a focused evaluation of specific components, documented on a state-mandated form for insurance companies.
During an inspection, we meticulously evaluate the following features to determine your home's resistance to wind damage. These are the key categories that can qualify you for a discount.
1. Roof Covering: We'll note the age of your roof and confirm if its installation meets current building codes.
2. Roof Deck Attachment: We determine how your roof decking is secured to the underlying structure. Stronger attachments, such as proper nailing patterns and nail length, can qualify for a discount.
3. Roof to Wall Attachment: This section focuses on how your roof trusses or rafters are connected to the walls. We'll check for hurricane clips, single wraps, or double wraps, as more secure attachments can lead to greater savings.
4. Roof Geometry: Your roof's shape matters! We will determine if your roof is a hip, gable, or another type. Hip roofs (resembling a pyramid) are naturally more wind-resistant and often qualify for a discount.
5. Gable End Bracing: If your home has a gable-style roof, we will check if the gable ends are braced to meet current Florida Building Code standards.
6. Wall Construction Type: We review the construction materials of your home's exterior walls. Reinforced concrete block homes, for example, typically offer better protection and may yield a larger discount.
7. Secondary Water Resistance: This is a modern feature that acts as a second line of defense against water intrusion. We will check if your roof has a secondary water barrier, a feature that is common in roofs installed or upgraded after 2008.
8. Opening Protection: We inspect all doors and windows for hurricane-rated shutters or other approved protection devices. To qualify for a discount, 100% of all openings must be covered by rated protection.
